Teddy bears originated in 1902. Then president Theodore Rosevelt went on a trip to hunt bears when foolish helpers cornered and trapped an American Black bear. Rosevelt declined to harm the bear.
The unfortunate incident hit the news and a fellow named Morris Michtom decided to market the a little stuffed bear cub doll he called the "Teddy's bear" after Theodore, Teddy, Rosevelt. Teddy bear dolls are now among the most popular gifts to give to young children for birthdays and major holidays such as Valentine's Day and Christmas.
